Alloy Steel 9430

Alloy steel 9430 is an iron-carbon alloy composed of silicon-maganese and carbon. The silicon increases strength and improves magnetic properties while the manganese increases hardenability. The first digit, 9, defines silicon-manganese as the primary element. The second digit, 4, defines the approximate percentage of the primary element (4% silicon-manganese), and the last two digits, 30, define the percentage of carbon in hundredths of a percent (0.30% carbon).
