Chromium
A steel gray, lustrous, hard and brittle metallic element that takes its name from the Greek word for color chrome because of the brilliant colors of its compounds. It is found primarily in chromite. Resistant to tarnish and corrosion, it is a primary component of stainless steel and is used to harden steel alloys.
